We welcome you to our new website which we hope will be easier to navigate and will provide updates on our programs, and feature different articles each month as well, In sha’ Allah. Our articles will focus on our projects and programs, health related information, social service issues and concerns such as food insecurity many families are experiencing, Islamic reminders and daily Hadith, and special notices and projects. Throughout the year we coordinate different programs and projects which include food drives, clothing drives based on the seasons, book bag drives and personal care items collections, and many other projects including special projects during the blessed month of Ramadan. Each year during Ramadan we have iftar meals sponsorships, Ramadan food packages deliveries, EID toy drive collections, Ramadan good deed baskets project and other opportunities for anyone wishing to help out.
Throughout the year our volunteers deliver food packages to families who are in need of food assistance in metro Atlanta area and Northeast Georgia area and smaller South Carolina communities. To date we have delivered more than 6,612 packages which also include personal care packages, and furniture to families. Our volunteers also deliver cooked food as well to families bi-weekly or in cases of urgency we have sisters who cook meals for those who are disabled or sick or without food in crisis situations.
Currently we are collecting food items for our winter food drive throughout the month of February and spring clothes for children ages and sizes infant to size 16. All clothes must be in good condition (clean and free of stains). We are also accepting baby food and baby formula, diapers (sizes 3-5) and personal care items that many of our families ask for on a monthly basis (toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, soaps, shampoo, detergent, facial tissues, hand sanitizer, wipes, band aids).
We thank you for your donations which have helped us to serve so many families. May Allah Subhana wa Ta’Ala bless and reward you for your donations, time and efforts and we hope you will consider helping with any of our projects during the 2019 year that might interest you.
Jazak Allah Khair.
Much needed food was donated by a few of our generous and supportive families from Costco. Many thanks for your continued dedication to assisting the Madinah Food Pantry in bringing food and neccessities to needy familes. These donations were greatly appreciated. Additional pictures can be found on the gallery page.
Madinah Food Pantry and Family Services will again be collecting and distributing Zakat and Sadaqah Fitr this year. Sadaqah al Fitr should be given for distribution before going to the Eidgah or the Masjid for Salaatul 'Eid. Arrangements can be made to have your Zakat or Sadaqah al Fitr (Fitrana) collected from your home. Sadaqa al Fitr can be donated by way of dates, raisins, grain such as rice, wheat etc. It may also be donated in the form of cash. Current Sadaqah al Fitr (Zakatul Fitr) cash amount is approximately $8.00 per family member. Please contact us as soon as possible.
What is Sadaqah al Fitr?
Sadaqah al Fitr is what is donated to those eligible to receive it, in the form of dates raisins, barley, wheat etc.. or its' equivalent in cash before the "Eid al Fitr Salat on the first of day of the month of Shawwal. This is Wajib (compulsory) on anyone who one is in posession of personal items equal to the value (Nisaab) requiring one to pay Zakat. The current valuation for Nisaab asof July 9th 2015 is $3461.55 Unlike Zakat these items do not have to be in ones's posession for one year but are in ones' posession at the time the Eid salaah approaches.
The great Hanafi jurist Ibn al-Humaam Rahmatullahi 'alaihi mentions,
“Sadaqah al-fitr is compulsory upon every free Muslim.” (Sharh fath al-qadeer 2/285 Dar al-kutub al-ilmiyyah)
All the scholars base their opinion on the following:
Sayyidinaa Abdullah Ibn ‘Umar (Allah be pleased with him) narrates,
‘The Prophet (Sall Allahu 'aliahi wa Aalihi wa sallim) enjoined the payment of one Saa’ of dates or one Saa’ of barley as Zakat-ul-fitr on every Muslim slave or free, male or female, young or old, and he ordered that it be paid before the people went out to offer the ‘Eid prayer.’ (Sahih al-Bukhari 1/409 Altaaf and sons)
Sayyidinaa Abdullah Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) narrates,
“The Prophet (Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Aalihi wa sallim) declared the payment of Sadaqah al-fitr as obligatory; it purifies the fasting person from any indecent act or speech, and is a source of feeding the poor. If one pays Sadaqah al-fitr before the salaah, it is considered an accepted charity, if he pays it after the salaah, it is considered an ordinary charity.” (Abu Dawud p.263 Dar al-kutub al-ilmiyyah)
Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim

3rd Ramadan: The Wisal of Sayyidatuna Fatimah az Zahra (Radhi Allah Anha)
Shaykha Sayyida Fatimah az Zahra is the youngest of the beloved daughters of Sayyidinaa Rasuli Akram (Sall Allahu ‘alaihi wa Aalihi wa sallim). She left this world six months after her beloved father Habibullah Sall Allahu ‘alaihi wa Aalihi wa sallim (11 Hijra). The wife of Amir ul Mu’mineen Sayyidinaa Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (Karam Allahu wajhahu) and the mother of the Shahidayn Sayyidinaa Imam Hasan and Sayyidinaa Imam Hussain (‘alaihimus salaam), she is the leader of ladies in Jannat. Seeing her constant toil and struggle to take care of her family, though she never complained, Sayyidinaa Imam ‘Ali Karam Allahu wajhahu was moved by love and compassion to encouraged her to asked the Holy Last Messenger Sall Allahu ‘alaihi wa Aalihi wa sallim for a maid-servant to help her with domestic chores. Rasulullah Sall Allahu ‘alaihi wa Aalihi wa sallim knowing the true nature of Shaykha Fatima az Zahra ‘alaiha salaam a true Faqirah bestowed upon her the best of gifts. He Sall Allahu ‘alaihi wa Aalihi wa sallim prescribed a wadhifah for her that would become the wadhifah of the believers for all times to come. The wadhifah which came to be known as the Tasbih of Sayyida Fatima ‘alaihi salaam is the recitation Subhan Allah 33 times, Alhamdulillah 33 times, and Allahu Akbar 34 times. Most commonly recited after Salaah, it can be recited at any time, day or night. The tasbih Sayyida Fatima as Zahra ‘alaiha salaam, is the basis and proof for prescribing a specific dhikr a specific number of times to remove the maladies, both physical and non-physical.
Alms are for the poor and the needy, and those employed to administer the (funds); for those whose hearts have been (recently) reconciled (to Truth); for those in bondage and in debt; in the cause of Allah; and for the wayfarer: (thus is it) ordained by Allah, and Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom. Suratul Taubah [9] Ayah 60
About this ayatul karimah, from “TafsirJalalayn” of Imams Jalaluddin Suyuti Rahimuhullah and Jalaluddin Mahalli Rahimuhullah we read;
“The voluntary almsgivings, the alms to be dispensed, are only for the poor, who cannot find anything to suffice them in the least, and the needy, who cannot find anything to suffice them, and those who work with them, that is, [with] these alms, in other words, the one who collects [them], the one who takes the oaths [from those who claim them], the slave to be manumitted by contract, as well as the tax-summoner; and those whose hearts are to be reconciled, so that they might become Muslims, or that Islam might be firmly established, or that their peers might become Muslims, or that they might defend Muslims, all of whom are [classed according to different] categories. According to al-Shāfi‘ī, may God be pleased with him, the first and the last [of these categories] are no longer given [of the alms-tax] today, because of the [established] power of Islam; in contrast, the other two [categories] are given [of the alms-tax], according to the sounder [opinion]; and for, the manumission of, slaves, that is, [for] slaves to be manumitted by contract, and for the debtors, those in debt, if they have taken out a debt without intending thereby an act of disobedience, or those who have repented but have nothing with which to fulfil [the penalty of expiation], or to set things right between people, even if they be wealthy; and, for the way of God, that is, [for] those who are engaged in the struggle, of those for whom there is no [share of the] booty (fay’), even if they be wealthy; and for the traveller, the one cut off [from resources] during his journey — a duty imposed by God (farīdatan, ‘a duty’, is in the accusative because of an implied verb [sc. faradahā, ‘which He has imposed’]). And God is Knower, of His creatures, Wise, in His actions.

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Every joint of a person must perform a charity each day that the sun rises: to judge justly between two people is a charity. To help a man with his mount, lifting him onto it or hoisting up his belongings onto it, is a charity. And the good word is a charity. And every step that you take towards the prayer is a charity, and removing a harmful object from the road is a charity.” [Al-Bukhari] [Muslim]
