Historic Events During Ramadhan
Alhamdullilah, Ramadan 2014 was truly a blessed month where many individuals, families, masjids and communities came forth to serve the Muslim community and volunteer for different projects throughout Ramadan. Different families made and donated beautiful Ramadan baskets containing both food and personal care items at the very beginning of Ramadan which were distributed to families during the first 10 days of Ramadan. Ramadan food packages were also delivered throughout the month of Ramadan which contained bulk food items (rice, flour, sugar, cooking oil, tea, cereal, canned foods, pasta, tomato sauces and jams). Several Iftar meals were coordinated with local masjids in need of sponsors as well as Iftar meals were delivered to individual families in need of Iftar dinners. Many of these families do not have transportation or for health reasons could not attend Iftar dinners at their local masjid so these dinners helped out tremendously and all of the families really appreciated them. Throughout Ramadan, many families were assisted through the zakat funds that were donated by different individuals and families. Over $ 5,000 was used to help Muslims remain in their homes who were threatened with eviction, three homeless families to use funds for immediate housing needs, and families who needed assistance with bills (electric and water) to avoid disconnection. Zakat ul fitr food donated by some individuals and a few masjids (bulk rice, flour, sugar, juices, beans, cooking oil and raisins) were also distributed before EID prayer to families. Some deliveries to homes were made as late as midnight in order to get the food items to families living in Northeast Georgia and metro Atlanta.
We would also like to thank ECIC for an outstanding job with the food drive they coordinated for Madinah Food Pantry on July 4th, 2014. Alhamdullilah, so many food and personal care items were donated that we needed a U-Haul truck and these items helped out tremendously with our Ramadan food packages, and will also help with food packages for the next few months, In sha’ Allah.
Our EID toy and gift drive was also a great success due to the efforts and donations of individual families and Islamic Society of South Atlanta’s (Stockbridge) wonderful donations that were distributed to families in metro Atlanta and Northeast Georgia. Many thanks for sister Munazza Khan who coordinated this effort as ISSA and all those who donated the beautiful gifts. Everyone who received the gifts loved them and the children who received gift cards were so happy to be able to go shopping for items that they wanted. East Cobb Islamic Center in Marietta also donated gift cards which was truly a blessing because we had at least 200 people on our list this year, which also included volunteers who throughout the year give of their time and efforts to serve the Muslim community. Many thanks to sister Meher Jan for helping out with this effort at ECIC. Alhamdullilah, the volunteers were also able to use the cards to buy things for themselves, all well-deserved for extraordinary service!
May Allah Subhana wa Ta’Ala bless and reward everyone that helped out in any way to serve the Muslim community (people who coordinated programs and projects, volunteers who did pickups and deliveries, everyone who made donations, everyone who gave of their time and efforts). Jazak Allah Khairan!!!
Qaala Rasulullahi Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim;
" Khayrun naasi anfa'ahum lin naas".
Rasulullah Sall Allahu 'alaihi wa Aalihi wa Sallim is reported to have said;
"The best of Mankind are those who are of the most benefit to Mankind".
Many thanks to East Cobb Islamic Center in Marietta for all of the wonderful donations that were donated on July 4th that will help so many families in need. There was so much food and personal care items donated, a U-Haul truck was needed.
This is the third food drive sponsored by our dear brothers and sisters at ECIC. We are humbled beyond words at the overwhelming outpouring of love as witnessed by such generosity. Can we even imagine the immense barakah received from the ibaadah of those families whose bodies are nourished with food donated through your generosity? May Allah Subhanahu wa ta 'Ala bless everyone who donated, helped to pack and unpack the truck, and coordinated this tremendous effort both in the ECIC community [1111 Braswell Rd., Marietta GA 30062] and Madinah Food Pantry staff and volunteers.
May Allah Subhanahu wa ta 'Ala accept all of our fasts, our good deeds and forgive our sins.
And Whatever good you send forth for yourself, you will find it with Allah, it will be better
[than what you actually sent] and a great reward! And seek the Forgiveness of Allah.
indeed Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful.

Where do your food donations go?
A food package was recently delivered to a women's shelter. Alhamdullilah, the sister who received the package took pictures of the food and displayed them and sent them to us with a thank you note. Alhamdullilah, the food was a great blessing to the sisters in the shelter. Since we cannot share any confidential information, from time to time, we can share photos and also comments made from families so everyone can get an idea of how important and very much needed the mobile food pantry is in serving the needs of our Muslim brothers and sisters (and others who call in need as well). This is an email from this particular sister received this week:
"Thank You again for your assistance. The food package was more than enough for me and I was able to share with the other sister in the shelter. I'm very grateful for your assistance and once I'm stable look forward to repaying Madinah Food Pantry by volunteering in some capacity."
Ramadan is fast approaching and we have several projects that anyone can volunteer for, In sha' Allah:
(1) We still need help with making Ramadan baskets which we plan to distribute the first few days of Ramadan, In sha' Allah. Alhamdullilah, we have had people come forth to help with this but we are still short of our goal of 50 baskets (we have that many families who can use them);
In sha’ Allah, our next scheduled “Feed the Homeless Program” is scheduled for the third or last weekend of August. Due to our Ramadan schedule, we will not be hosting a feeding program for the homeless in Athens during the months of June and July. Alhamdullilah, since 2012 our staff and volunteers have served the homeless community through monthly feeding events in both Gainesville and Athens. Different sisters and groups a variety of food items for residents at different shelters. In January 2014 the Zakat Foundation sponsored the dinner and one of their volunteers came out to assist us. Anyone wishing to cook for the event in August please let us know by the first week of August.
